My first blog post.. Well, here it goes!
For me, cookie making has been this amazing journey that’s allowed me to fuse my need for a creative outlet and my curiosity of entrepreneurship. At 24, I was working in mortgage banking (yawn) and not really exploring any of my passions or talents. Even though I had been told from a young age to pursue art, I spent my whole life believing that anything art-related would be a poor choice for a career path. So, I ended up “settling” for corporate life.
But one day, I had the opportunity to work for a small startup tech company. I didn’t even know this world existed…you know, this world where kids are making crazy money while working in their pajamas at home. Making your own schedule, being your own boss. No drab work clothes, no annoying cubicle neighbor telling you about their weird cats. It’s a world of highs and lows, fear and excitement, failure and sometimes even remarkable success. I was inspired. I was hooked.
Since then, I’ve done everything in my power to avoid corporate America. While it hasn’t always been easy, I take it day-by-day. That’s where cookies came in (…along with professional organizing, babysitting, some event and fashion photography, marketing/PR consulting, and now blogging!) I mean, I literally do everything, and until I know exactly what I want to do, I will continue to explore all of these different directions.
At this point, I’m almost 26 and I realize that now is the time for me to figure out my strengths and weaknesses. The past 8 months have been the best months of my life. It’s certainly been terrifying, stressful and emotionally exhausting at times, but I’m figuring out my life one day at a time and loving every minute of this journey!
